Getting Here - The First Post

Hello,

I, Ferg, wrote this one.

For this first post, I will tell you a tale of pictures. Let's start at the beginning of most things, Detroit, Michigan.

We loaded up the car, each having 2 checked bags, a carry-on, and a personal item. Our last meal in the USA was Chipotle. It was pretty ok.

It took a while to get to what we see here in the picture on the right. Step 1, prove to the person at the Delta check-in desk, that we had the proper paperwork. This took no less than 20 minutes. Thank the lord Allison printed everything out. Step 2, get through security. It was at this point when I spilled some of my Chipotle. Not all, but some. Defeated, Allison suggested we spend money. I agreed and voila, drinks and snacks in the DTW Delta sky lounge.

After a completely packed flight to LA, you now see us about to board the flight to Sydney. I also bought whisky, duty-free. That was a first for me.

We were in the air for about 15 hours, which is, in fact, a long-ass flight. Because of Australia's many covid restrictions, not many people were on the flight. Both Al and I had an entire 3 seat row to ourselves. We both slept, on and off, for about 6 hours. It wasn't nearly as bad as it sounds.

Pacific Ocean big.

The sun is rising. This flight is long.

Land Approacheth.

Once we landed, we made our way through baggage claim, then customs, then biohazard screening.
"Sir, do you have hiking boots with you?"
"Yes"
"Do they have any dirt on them?"
"Well, I don't think I would've packed dirty boots"
"Makes sense, off ya go"
Very Aussie interaction. The picture you see to the right was taken during the $80 Taxi ride we took to our Airbnb, where we will be staying until just after Christmas.
Part of the Covid precautions we have to take part in, is getting tested within the first 24 hours. This is easy, just go to a testing location and get it done.
"What's your phone number"
"We ain't go one"
"Ok well you can't get a test if you don't have a number"
"Well, we are supposed to be self-isolating, so how are we supposed to go get an Aussie sim card?"
..... *magic happens* .....
"Ok we are back with an Aussie phone number"
Allison took this picture on the way back from our covid test. A nice park with the city in the background.

So, it is now 8pm here. Allison's battery has drained and she is PASSED OUT. I'm close to doing the same. We ordered food from the local grocery store to be delivered. We are stuck in the airbnb to self-isolate for 72 hours. When we wake up, we will have gone through about 24 hours.

PS. Saw an ibis. Still as gross as I remember them.
