Allison getting her L's & buying a new motorcycle

 Hello Everyone, 

We have absolutely adored our 14-year-old, 100cc moped, that we've previously written about. However, it was a bit of a squeeze to get both of us ~6ft people on and it struggled to get up that one hill leaving Bondi. With these things in mind, it was time for an upgrade. This improvement to our quality of life has involved the purchase of a motorcycle. 

Mopeds and motorcycles are quite common in Sydney as lane filtering is allowed and most transit occurs on streets less than 60 km/hr (~35mph). The purchase of our moped has increased our mobility, but Ferg has been the only one with the license to ride/drive it. I would sit pillion but was not allowed to operate the vehicle on my own. I ended up taking my learner's course in order to get my motorcycle license and ride/drive by myself.

The motorcycle learner's license, or "L's", as it's called, was a two-day course where 5 others and I learned how to ride a motorcycle. After I and 4 of the others successfully passed the driving portion of the class, we were able to sit for the knowledge portion which I took a couple days afterward. This test was mainly regarding street signage and Australian motorist laws, which was quite helpful to learn.

After successfully passing my learners course, I am able to operate a moped or motorcycle by myself! I've been primarily practicing my skills on the moped as the manual clutch on the motorcycle has been tricky. For the next step, the "P's" course, I will show off my motorcycle riding skills and hopefully get signed off to the next level of motorcycle license.

And now, introducing our new (to us) Honda CB125e motorcycle. This 2013, 125cc motorcycle has been described as a "workhorse" and its previous owners drove it from Sydney to Melbourne and back. We have yet to name our new mode of transport, so if you're inspired by our photoshoot below, please provide suggestions.

Fun Fact: NSW utilizes red-light speed cameras and mobile phone detection cameras. Meaning, if you are speeding or using your phone in a zone where these cameras are used, you will get a fine and demerit points in the mail. Don't do it, it's expensive.
